Do Puig Offer the Best Crash Protection?

Puig Engine Guard

If you are anything like me and your motorcycle is your pride and joy, then it goes without saying that protecting its vital components is at the top of your list of priorities and Puig have made it easier than ever to do just that.

With an array of products to protect the front, middle and rear of your motorcycle, Puig have developed the latest products in the world of crash protection to defend the integral parts of your motorbike in the unfortunate event of a crash, drop or fall.

So, what exactly are the products on offer and how do they ensure protection?

Puig Front Fork Protectors & Bar Ends: The First Line of Defence

First up is the protection on offer for the front of your motorbike and that comes in the form of front fork protectors and bar ends.

Puig front fork protectors are made from resistant nylon, acting as the first line of defence incase of any unwanted contact with the ground and creating that all-important protection for your front fork and suspension. Not only does the front fork protector limit potential damage, it is also available with a range of coloured inserts, allowing you to select the option that best compliments the appearance of your motorcycle.

While the front fork protector tends to spring to mind when we think about protection at the front of the motorbike, it could be said that motorcycle bar ends fly under the radar and are in fact, underrated. Bar ends are easily replaceable and that is exactly why they come in handy, taking the brunt of the impact instead of the handlebars which, naturally, cost a lot more time, money and effort to replace. Puig bar ends also add an extra dimension of customisation with a selection of colours to compliment your motorcycle.

What Do Frame Sliders & Engine Covers Protect?

Now that the question of front protection has been answered, turn your attention to the middle area of your motorbike where again, there are a couple of different lines of defence on show.

Puig motorcycle frame sliders

Puig frame sliders take the impact so your fairing doesn't have to.

A must have for track bikes when the risk of a crash is higher, Puig frame sliders are the ideal products to protect your bodywork and fairing, absorbing impacts in the event of a crash even when travelling at higher speeds and are particularly effective at minimising the damage posed by slides.

Puig then take engine protection a step further with their engine guards. Puig engine covers provide safe and rigid protection for the engine of your motorbike against unwanted contact with the ground in the unfortunate event of a drop, fall or slide. On top of that, the mere presence of an engine cover will make your life easier when it comes to cleaning your bike and speaking from experience it is much easier to clean a smooth, plastic engine cover in comparison to an exposed engine.

Much like any motorcycle accessory, convenience and aesthetics are a welcomed bonus offered by Puig’s frame sliders and engine guards. The engine covers can be fitted to existing mounting points for a straightforward installation and are available in both black and grey while frame sliders are black as standard but allow for personalisation with a number of coloured inserts.

Are Swing Arm Protectors & Spools the Same Thing?

When it comes to protection at the rear of your motorcycle, there are two rather similar products available and you may now be wondering why they would offer two products that seemingly serve the same purpose. Well, the answer to that question lies in one key feature.

Both the swing arm protector and spools have been designed to protect, you guessed it, the swing arm. Made from impact resistant nylon, these Puig products reduce the risk of accumulating scuffs and scratches that would otherwise be caused if you were to drop the bike. With similarities accounted for, it is now time to look at how the swing arm protector and spools differ and as mentioned, that comes down to one main aspect. Unlike the swing arm protector, spools allow you to attach a paddock stand to safely store your motorcycle when parked and better yet, elevate it to facilitate cleaning and performing repairs.

As is the case with the other products mentioned, it is not only protection on offer with the swing arm protectors and spools, but also aesthetics. Although both come in black as standard, they each have a range of coloured inserts that allow you to match the appearance of your motorbike or simply add a touch of colour for an eye-catching look.

So, with consideration given to the various forms of protection for your motorbike, is motorcycle crash protection really worth having?

The honest answer is, yes. Each different product mentioned helps to minimise damage to your pride and joy and while I’m not saying it will wrap your motorcycle in cotton wool, it will certainly mitigate the extent of damage to reduce your repair bill in the event of a crash, saving you money in the long run.
