Are Motorcycle Headlight Protectors Worth It?

For most people, their motorcycle has a special place in their life and as such, they will do all they can to ensure it remains protected.

There are a number of ways to enhance motorcycle protection and although the headlight may not be the first area that springs to mind, that does not mean it should be forgotten about.

So, with that said, how effective are motorcycle headlight protectors and are they really worth forking out for?

What Is A Motorcycle Headlight Protector?

Motorcycle headlight protectors are a form of plastic casing that act as a shield over the headlight to defend against the potential damage, namely cracks and chips, posed by stones and other flying road debris.

Why Does My Motorcycle Need A Headlight Protector?

Convenience & protection are the keys behind a headlight protector.

When riding along on your motorcycle, regardless of the terrain, it is inevitable that at some point the bike is going to kick up stones, tar and other bits of debris on the road and while they are not necessarily guaranteed to hit the headlight, why take the risk? At the very least, the headlight may become cracked or chipped and the worst case scenario could be a completely shattered headlight which is not going to be much use at night.

That is where the headlight protector really earns its salt. I would not go as far as saying it creates a Star Wars-esque forcefield at the front of the motorbike, however, it certainly will take the brunt of the impact so the headlight does not have to. In that vein, the protector itself is going to sustain damage, but you can get away with riding with a damaged headlight protector and they are also much easier to source and cheaper to replace than an original headlight.

It is not just effective protection motorbike headlight protectors should be noted for, but also their offering when it comes to cleaning. Stones and debris are going to cause the damage but the headlight will also pick up dirt and insects along the way and the smooth casing of the protector is simply easier to clean than an exposed headlight and its components.

Why Puig Offer The Best Headlight Protectors

Manufactured using impact-resistant thermoplastic material, Puig’s durable motorcycle headlight protectors’ are particularly effective in mitigating damage and protecting the integrity of the headlight whilst offering the bonus of corrosion resistance.

What’s more, Puig headlight protectors set themselves apart from the competition thanks to their mounting structure. The use of steel support brackets to fix the protector in place provide a much more secure fitment than the transparent velcro found with the alternative headlight protectors on the market. If that was not enough, they can be installed in a matter of minutes and are delivered with detailed, visual instructions to make the process that little bit easier.

With everyone now a bit more familiar with motorcycle headlight protectors, those from Puig in particular, are they really worth it or are there simply other accessories that should take priority over them?

To be honest, the importance of certain motorcycle parts can be subjective, one person may value a headlight in higher esteem than someone else. One thing is for sure though, if you do not want to go to the time, effort and expense of sourcing a replacement headlight, then a headlight protector is a must have.
